South Pakistan children dying of hunger as drought looms

Pakistan's government has confirmed that more than a million people are suffering after a very dry winter in the country's southern province of Sindh.
Almost 140 children have died of starvation in the Thar desert region in the past few months.
Strong criticism has been levelled at the authorities for not doing more to prevent the deaths.

Three more kids die in famine-struck Thar

THARPARKAR- Three more children died of malnutrition today taking the death toll in Thar to 234. Hunger continued to claim lives in Thar, as children continue to suffer from shortage of food and water in Mitthi and Diplo, while the relief activities in the area remain suspended. 122 dispensaries and basic health units are out of order, due to unavailability of staff whereas 30 doctors and 23 ambulances from other areas failed to access far flung areas of Thar. Poor residents are longing for food, pure drinking water and medicines. According to reports, the poor people are not getting wheat announced by Sindh government. One report said that wheat is being distributed among those who have strong political connections.
